About my work
Abstraction
The art movement abstract expressionism has strongly influenced me. Over the years I developed an experimental and intuitive working method. This gave me the space to explore the subconscious and make it visible. The painters who inspired me were: Wassily Kandinsky, Max Ernst, Willem Hussem and Piet Ouborg.
Figuration
In my figurative work, photographic composition is the starting point. I transform these photographs into textile paintings. The pattern of the textile becomes the underlying structure of the painting. While painting it, an interaction arises, an interplay between the rhythmic repetition of the pattern and recognizable parts from reality.
